Vice Governor Wei Zengjun Meets with Japanese Guests

On September 5, 2017, Wei Zengjun, Vice Governor of Shaanxi Province met with a Japanese delegation headed by Hirata Yasuo, former Chairperson of Nihon Keizai Shimbun in Xi’an.

In his introduction, Wei Zengjun noted that as Shaanxi locates at the geometrical center of China, and its capital city Xi’an, in turn, serves as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, enjoying geographical advantages. Shaanxi has cherished a long tradition of friendship with Japan, and the two sides have been maintaining close economic cooperation. As the fifth largest trade partner and an important investor, Japan has more than 300 enterprises invested in Shaanxi. In addition, Shaanxi is building itself into a highland for reform and open-up as a hinterland province in China and is striving to shape the core area of the “Belt and Road”. He also hoped Japanese enterprises learn more about China and seize opportunities to promote extensive cooperation.

Hirata Yasuo expressed his willingness to strengthen communications and to actively engage in the “Belt and Road” initiative, intensifying cooperation with Shaanxi in economy & trade, tourism and humanities.
