Shaanxi Hongquan (A School of Chinese Martial Arts) Protection Base Unveiled

On April 15th, “China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage- Hongquan Protection Base” unveiled at Zhangjiayao, a folk culture village in Sanyuan County. The establishment of the Protection Base symbolizes achievements in the protection, inheritance and promotion of Hongquan.

Hongquan, originated from Shaanxi Province and with a history of thousands of years, is an embodiment of enterprising and self-supportive spirit of the Chinese nation. In history, Hongquan played a vital role in resisting foreign aggression and maintaining national dignity. As a well-established Chinese martial art in Shaanxi, Hongquan is characterized by varied movements and techniques. In 2008, Hongquan has been listed on the second batch of China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Shao Zhiyong, President of Shaanxi Hongquan Culture Research Association said: “more measures will be taken to better protect Hongquan, including establishing museums, training centers and exhibition halls, monument to Hongquan masters and so on.”
