The closing ceremony of the EU-China Tourism Year was held in Xi’an

The closing ceremony of the EU-China Tourism Year was held in Xi’an on November 17th. The activity was co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China and the Directorate-General (DG) for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, and organized by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Shaanxi Province.

Yu Qun, the Party Leadership Group Member of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Gang, the Vice-Governor of the People's Government of Shaanxi Province, and Lowri Evans, the Director-General of the Directorate-General (DG) for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, attended the ceremony and delivered their speeches respectively. In addition, diplomatic envoys from the EU, Spain, Austria and the Netherlands as well as representatives from tourist enterprises within China, the EU and the media, all helped in making the number of people that attended the activity exceed 300.

According to Yu Qun, holding the EU-China Tourism Year was a significant decision made by both leaders with the hope of achieving further developments on both sides. The success of the event and the booming development of the China-EU tourism industry once again presented the love for life, the passion for exploring the world and the sincere aspiration to understand each other. Therefore, taking this event as an opportunity, China is willing to further cooperate with the EU and its member countries in the field of tourism, thus to motivate the development of China-EU relations.

Zhao Gang said that the closing ceremony provided an opportunity for the EU and the world to understand Shaanxi and promote bilateral cooperation. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, Shaanxi would continuously advance communication and cooperation with the EU.

Ms. Evans spoke highly of the achievements made during the activity. She praised China’s contributions and expected to promote the further development of China-EU relations through cooperation with China.
