France - a New Destination for Xi'an Tourists

France has built the Visa Application Centre in Xi’an for six months. Travelling France turns a new option for Xi’an tourists

Under the guidance of the China Office of Atout France, 44 French travel agencies held promotion on tourism products in Ningbo on Nov. 27 and 28. Xi’an, as one of the 9 visa application centers added in China, registers a rapid increase in the number of tourist groups heading for France. What’s more, France allows young Chinese tourists, including those from Northwestern China, to pay their bills by Alipay and Wechat.

France built 9 visa application centers in China to encourage residents in second-tier cities to travel in France

The promotion is themed on “Act upon Intention”. The China Office of Atout France has done three things as follows in just two days: arranged numerous meet-and-greet activities; invited travel agencies, vertical industries and media to have extensive discussions; provided the latest tourism information and product suggestions to people in the tourism sector. Some French tourism professionals would leave for Taiwan and Hong Kong and held promotions there.

In the promotion, the persons in charge of provincial and municipal tourism bureaus and partners from hotels, castles, local travel agencies, cruise companies, museums, ski resorts, department stores, airlines, railway companies and airports had in-depth discussion with each other. Deng Jialin, general manager of the China Office of Atout France, said that France has been working with tireless dedication to encouraging Chinese tourists to travel in France and it hoped to be their most significant destination in Europe.

The year of 2016 saw 2 million Chinese tourists travelling in France. The country launched visa application centers in 9 cities with Xi’an included, totaling 15 of them in China. The latest fingerprint acquisition brought convenience to tourists’ application for visas. “The majority of tourists travelling in France are young people, so we have opened Alipay payment and Wechat payment is about to be set in motion”, said Stella LAROCHE, international sales manager of the Printemps Department Store.

Tourists in second-tier cities like Xi’an regard France as their favored destination

Residents in second-tier cities showed more interests in travelling abroad and the tourism market was getting more diversified. Taking all these changes into consideration, the French Tourism Office added skiing into its tourism items while keeping its original culture, lifestyle and shopping recommendation unchanged. The promotion witnessed almost 10 skiing resorts with different styles and they invited Chinese tourists to go skiing in France.

Wang Yuanyuan, project matchmaker of a travel agency in Xi’an, analyzed that as the number of Xi’an international airlines increased, more and more tourists in Northwestern China were keen on international travel. They would do routes planning on the internet before they went out and many of them opt for free travel. “There was a time when Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou were the favored destinations for the majority of Xi’an residents, but now France is their new option,” said Wang.

“It is typical of European countries to encounter tourist off-season that lasts from November to next March. Now, France is enriching its tourism resources in winter by launching new items including skiing in the promotion”, said Wang. Thanks to the visa application centre in Xi’an, the city witnesses tourist groups bounding for France every day, which is a rapid growth when compared with the figure (one tourist group per week) two years ago. “Tourists in Northwestern China have their own expectations for overseas travel and we should satisfy their needs by providing unique activities,” added Wang.
