On October 29, Northwest Branch of China Eastern Airlines Corporation opened the Xi’an-Prague non-stop flight, which is the first non-stop flight from Xi’an to Prague starting from northwest China and also the 4th route offering Non-stop Flight from China to Czech Republic.

Located in northwest China, Shaanxi Province is accelerating the building of “Air Silk Road”. Centering on “promoting Silk Road connectivity and closer Europe-Asia connection, opening non-stop flights to America and Australia and increasing freight volume”, Shaanxi has endeavored to open more international flights and promote aviation logistics for a strong airport economy.

The two-round-trip flight per week of MU785/786 is served by Airbus 330. The departure flights take off from Xi’an at 15:45 Beijing time on Thursday and Sunday and arrive at Prague, the capital of Czech Republic at 18:50 local time; the return flights take off at 21:20 local time on Thursday and Sunday and arrive at Xi’an at 14:10 Beijing time the next day.

Xi’an is a strategic linkage for China Eastern Airlines to establish network covering the west region. The open of the non-stop flight from Xi’an to Prague, a major city along the Belt and Road, bears enormous significance for the implementation of the Belt and Road construction, the promotion of Xi’an into an international metropolis and the exchange between northwest China and the whole world in terms of politics, economy and culture. The flight, as a bridge connecting the two historical cities, will not only meet tourism demand and promote civilization connectivity, but also play a supporting role in serving economic and social development and strengthening China-EU relations.

Lukas Kautsky, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic remarked that the open of the 4th non-stop flight route from China to Czech has made Prague a transportation hub linking China and Europe. Kautsky welcomes more visits by Chinese friends to Czech and hopes to further future cooperation with Shaanxi and Xi’an.

Cheng Guowei, General Manager of Northwest Branch of China Eastern Airlines Corporation believed that the non-stop flight will surely promote cultural exchange, personnel and economic communication and people-to-people connectivity.

On the same day, China Eastern Airlines opened the Xi’an-Wuhan-Sydney route. In 2018, China Eastern Airlines will open routes to St. Petersburg and Madrid to form an air network covering northeastern Europe, Russia and central Asia and an international airline network in west China with “Air Silk Road” as its core.
