At around 7:50am of Oct 30, with full advance preparations, AT200, the first unmanned civil freight aircraft in the world made the first demonstration test flight at Pucheng County, Shaanxi. With powerful and speedy taxi, the plane flew up into the high sky over the Guanzhong Plain and reached the set altitude. After navigating the cruise and making a two-round circles, it began to descend and landed safely and soundly at 8:18am. The total flight lasted approximately 28 minutes.

The test result of this open flight showed that the aircraft was in a stable condition and precise flight tracking, which is up to the designing requirement. The successful maiden flight of AT200 marked the emergence of the first unmanned cargo aircraft with ton-level capacity in the world.

Excitingly, this precursor aircraft is the “Intelligent Manufacturing of Chengdu” out and out since the chief researcher Star UAS Co. Ltd. is based in the Southwest China Airport Economic Development Zone which is located in Shuangliu County, Chengdu City. The whole project was also carried out in the independent research and development center by research teams based in Chengdu.

According to Dr. Liu Fuhu, Deputy Chief Designer of AT200, the reason for this model to be named large unmanned cargo aircraft is its heavy weight and large size. “AT200 has a maximum takeoff weight of 3.4 tons, with a capacity of 1.5 tons. So far there has no open record of such aircrafts in other countries,” added Dr. Liu.
